General Information
The library service of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka is the main vehicle for acquisition, organization and distribution of knowledge and information to her academics. The library provides services to the university community such as undergraduates, postgraduates, academic staff members, administrative and Non academic staff members. In addition, the library services to the researches and outside community in the region. The library system of the Rajarata University is consisted with main library and three faculty libraries in different locations. The Main library and applied Sciences library are located within the Mihintale premises and serves to the Faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities, Management Studies and Applied Sciences consecutively. The Agriculture library located in Puliyankulama closed to Anuradhapura town serves to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The Medical and Allied Science library located in Saliyapura. The Professorial Unit located in General Hospital; Anuradhapura. It’s serves to the Faculty of Medical and Allied Sciences.
Materials that can be found in the library consist of textbooks, journals, magazines, newspapers, government documents, special collections, reference materials, past projects, dissertations, past questions papers and e-resources. All these are materials, that have been acquired based on the subject curriculum. The library resources are available in both print and electronic formats.
The library network holds 118105 titles of books and about 500 journal titles (foreign and local) as printed copies.It subscribed Online journal databases which can be assessed full text journal titles in Medicine, Agriculture, Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, Computer Sciences and Management disciplines. The library subscribes to many current resources and these are intended to help the users to keep up their knowledge with the current trends.

History of Library
The Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was established on the 31st January 1996 under the gazette notofication No 896/2 of 7th November 1995, and the University act 16.08.1978 by amalgamating the resources of Affiliated University, college in the central, North Western and North Central Provinces.
The library system of Rajarata University was started on 2nd September 1996.
The first librarian of Rajarata University library was Prof. Piyadasa Ranasinghe (1996-1998), followed by Mr. Kapila Jayalal Sirisena and Mr. Gamini de Silva (1999-2007) and Mrs. A.S. Siriwardana Act. Librarian(2008-2013).
